Wörnitz Gate with its rounded stone blocks from the time of the Staufers is the oldest of the four city gates. Hightened in the 14th century during the enlargement of Dinkelsbühl's fortifications. Renaissance gable with bell tower dates from the 16th century. On the outer side the coat of arms of the imperial city of Dinkelsbühl shows three ears of golden spelt ( in German "Dinkel") on three hills (= "bühl") in explanation of the town's name. Next to it the imperial eagle indicating direct rule by the Emperor.
